Terms of use

Last updated 2 November 2026.

This text hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer yet. It describes what Shardbound really does with your data and will be checked before paid early access opens.

These terms apply between you and the provider named in the imprint when you create a Shardbound ID, use this website, the launcher or the game.

1. Shardbound is in development

Shardbound is unfinished. Content, balance and features change, things break, and servers may be down for maintenance or because of faults. We describe the current state honestly on the roadmap; we don't promise release dates or particular features.

2. Your account

You need a Shardbound ID to play. Keep your password to yourself; you're responsible for what happens with your account. One person per account. You must be at least 16, or have a parent's or guardian's consent.

3. Fair play

Don't cheat, use bots or exploits, attack or overload our servers, sell or buy accounts, gold or items for real money, or harass other players. We may warn, suspend or ban accounts that break these rules, and remove what was gained by breaking them. A ban states its reason; you can contact us if you think it is wrong.

4. Free play and early access

Every account can play free up to level 10. Early access unlocks the rest of the game for as long as it is active, through a subscription or a game key. Subscriptions are sold by Polar Software Inc. (polar.sh), our merchant of record: Polar's terms apply to the purchase, including prices, taxes, invoices, cancellation and your statutory right of withdrawal. You can cancel any time; access lasts until the end of the period you paid for. Game keys are single-use, may be time-limited, and may not be resold.

5. What you get, and what you don't

You get a personal, non-transferable right to play while your account exists. The game, its code, art and content stay ours or our licensors'. Characters and items are part of the game, not property you own; they have no monetary value. Nothing that affects power in the game is ever sold.

6. Ending

You can stop and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may close accounts for serious or repeated breaches of these terms. If we ever shut Shardbound down, we will announce it at least 30 days ahead and stop taking subscription payments.

7. Liability

We are liable without limit for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the Product Liability Act. For slight negligence we are liable only for breaches of essential contractual obligations, limited to the damage typical and foreseeable for this kind of contract. Otherwise our liability is excluded.

8. Changes

We may change these terms when the game or the law changes. We'll tell you about important changes before they take effect, by email or in the launcher; if you keep playing after that, the new terms apply. You can always end your account instead.

9. Law

German law applies, without the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer in the EU, the mandatory consumer protection rules of your country still apply.
